Hello and welcome to the December 2014 Installations and Constellations. My name is Devorah and in this month’s issue, I offer you Solstice Greetings, insight into the new Moon in Capricorn and an overview of the major astrological transits influencing all of us in 2015.
December New Moon 2014
On the 21st of December along with the Solstice, the Sun and New Moon emerge in the Constellation of Capricorn (at 0 degrees and 6 minutes). But first a little explanation concerning the Solstice, an event that occurs twice each year once in Summer and once in Winter when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the North or South Pole. During summer the day of the Solstice is the longest day of the year and during winter the day of the Solstice is the shortest day of the year. The word Solstice originates from the Latin sol (Sun) and sistere (to stand still). On December the 21st, the sun stops moving south, sojourns, and then begins moving north. Likewise, on June 21st the sun stops moving north and starts moving south. The Solstices, together with the Equinoxes around March 21 and September 21 connect the seasons and in many cultures the Solstices denote either the beginning or the midpoint, hence the celebrations called Midsummer and Midwinter. The astrological charts of these four dates of the Solstices and Equinoxes are extremely important signposts of the conditions expected to emerge in the following 3 months. Our predecessors erected cosmological structures in order to observe and mark these important occurrences. These heritage sites of archaeoastronomy heralded what we now call astronomical observatories.
“At Stonehenge in England and at Carnac in France, in Egypt and Yucatán, across the whole face of the earth, are found mysterious ruins of ancient monuments, monuments with astronomical significance. They mark the same kind of commitment that transported us to the moon and our spacecraft to the surface of Mars.”
Our ancestors built these monuments dedicated to the sun’s movement so that they could track the passage of periodic and cyclical change, respectfully honouring the Hermetic maxim “That which is below corresponds to that which is above, and that which is above corresponds to that which is below”. This refers to the belief, that whatever happens in our physical and emotional reality is also happening in the planetary and metaphysical plane of existence as well. And so we take in hand now the ancient round Art of Astrology and look above and below towards the future, simultaneously preserving the wisdom acquired by our sagacious elders. This sentiment, the reverence of proven tradition is the ultimate essence of Capricorn, the constellation and its emanation available to us all this month.
On the 21st of December the new moon along with the Solstice appears immediately following the Sun at 0 degrees Capricorn, a very powerful critical degree. Mark this day and all new moons in your almanac because the new moon begins a new cycle of growth, a renewal and the most powerful time each month to connect to your inner self. Use the new moon transit and the following two weeks to set your intentions so that your desires will manifest in time for the full moon in Cancer on Jan the 15th. The first day of each month is considered to be the seed level for the rest of the month.
This is a significant New Moon flaunting a total of five planets in Capricorn, including Mercury (the messenger), Venus (charisma and money) conjoined with Pluto (the lord of power). Furthermore this new moon occurs as Saturn, Capricorn’s ruler, is teetering on the cusp of changing signs from Scorpio into Sagittarius. This all occurs at the same time as the planet of change Uranus stations and turns direct on the 21st, kick-starting an inner restlessness that is not easy to pacify. Certainly as Uranus moves forward again our urge to break free of constraints will re-awaken. This lunation will arouse the desire to make radical changes but the message of the stars is to act with maturity in the pursuit of sensible, attainable goals. Recognising responsibilities is at the forefront and self-discipline and indeed self-mastery are called for in manifesting our rock solid diamond dreams into reality. I personally believe one should make their New Year’s resolutions immediately following this New Moon on December 21st. With the overabundance of planets in earnest Capricorn, sincere intention, practical application and discipline will surely result in worthy accomplishments.
Go Well in Peace, Love and Happiness,
Wishing all a Merry Xmas and a very Happy New Year
